Editorial Policy

Organisers supply information. What's On decides what's published and how it's written. Listings are checked, sponsorship is labelled, and anyone can ask for a correction.

What we publish

Events, activities and regular clubs that people in the area can go to. Submitting an event doesn't guarantee publication. We may decline anything that's misleading, unlawful, spam, purely commercial with nothing to attend, or outside the area.

How listings are written

We write every listing ourselves from the facts supplied. We keep it short and factual: what it is, where, when, what it costs and how to go. We don't copy long descriptions from other websites, and we link to the organiser's official booking or information page where there is one.

Checking details

An editor reviews listings before they go live. Some organisers who've sent us accurate details before can be published sooner, but they never publish directly. Where we've confirmed details recently, the listing shows when it was last checked. Details can change, so check with the organiser before you travel.

Automated processing

We use software, including AI tools, to read submissions, pull out the facts and draft listings. The structured facts (dates, times, prices, venues) are the source of truth. Drafts are checked against them automatically and anything that doesn't match goes to an editor.

Ended and cancelled events

When an event ends, its page stays online and says so, with links to what's on now. Cancelled and postponed events are clearly labelled. Spam and listings published in error are removed.

Sponsorship

Sponsored placements are labelled "Sponsored" on the page and marked as sponsored links. Sponsors don't get favourable write-ups and can't pay to change a listing.

Corrections

Use "Report an update" on any event page, or email hello@whats-on.group. Corrections are reviewed by an editor before the listing changes.
